Help!... Baby Boomers

So exactly who are the ‘Baby Boomers’…...hmmmm, I am one.

Baby Boomers are anyone born between 1946 and 1964 (this is the time frame most commonly used) is the so called ‘Baby Boomer’ generation.

The term, ‘Baby Boomer’, was originally used (nobody knows who coined the phrase) to define the “boom” in births after World War II, sort of a human collective of saying ‘we are out of the tunnel, let’s pro-create’.

Most Baby Boomers are either retiring or nearing retiring at a rate of 8,000 to 10,000 every week in North America (statistics from both the U.S.A. & Canada…wow).

Most of us are both physically and mentally active, plus healthier than previous generations. We lived thru countless incredible inventions if not promising, introducing us to new and better ways of living our lives.

We now want to either live in our present home known as ‘aging in place’ or downsize to a home of lesser and much easier to maintain.

This generation, being tech savvy, desire their homes to be environmentally friendly, energy efficient, comfortable and beautiful……essentially they want their own unique and personal stamp placed on it. After all, the Baby Boomers have always done it their way.

This sentiment exists despite the fact that many of these home lack aging-friendly features such as single story, low maintenance, ease in maneuverability and effortless accessibility.

I will be sharing some tricks, secrets, tips, facts and ideas outlining the latest housing trends from easy and inexpensive upgrades to safety modifications making your ‘aging in place’ lifestyle a welcome change.

Many ‘do-it-yourselfer’ can save a few $$ by choosing to do the work themselves while others might choose to hire a handyperson to have it done.

So here are a few pointers to help you get started:

Power & hand tools ready & batteries charged

Do diagrams with dimensions, take measurements

Take a photo of area in question/bring product you wish to replace

Jot down a ‘to do’/shopping list – always have a tape measure with you

Google ‘big box stores’ (i.e. Home Depot) sourcing product, price & inventory

Now let’s go shopping
